Trekking in the Himalaya has been an integral part of Rujuta Diwekar’s life right from her childhood days. Whether it’s about exploring new places or experiencing the local way of living or a Yoga class, Himalaya has provided the stimuli for new thoughts and a test for physical fitness. In 2008, Rujuta was actively involved with Gaurav Punj when he started his venture, ‘Connect with Himalaya’. In one sentence, this is what CWH is all about:
‘CWH promotes ‘Inclusive tourism’ in the Indian Himalaya by making it mutually beneficial for the locals and visitors alike.’
The basis of our philosophy is to make a contribution to the land and people we go for our holidays. We do so by:
Associating with the local people/ agencies for organizing our trips. Whether it’s a local NGO, a rural cooperative or an individual, we include them in organizing travel, homestays and treks in their region.
By educating those who travel with us in the local way of life, their culture, beliefs, history and how their lives are directly affected by what we do or don’t back in the cities.
While preparing the Trip calendar for 2010, our aim was to cover all the regions of the Indian Himalaya, i.e Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal, Garhwal, Kumaon and Sikkim. The theme as always is 'The path less traveled'. The trips are a mixture of hard-core treks, chill-out holidays, adventure outings like rafting, skiing and mountain biking, theme holidays, Yoga and explorations.
